Aromatherapy for Everyday Life
An Ancient Art For Unifying Mind and Body
Aromatherapy, also referred to as Essential Oil therapy, can be defined as the art and science of utilizing naturally extracted aromatic essences from plants to balance, harmonize and promote the health of body, mind and spirit. It seeks to unify physiological, psychological and spiritual processes to enhance an individual’s innate healing process.
- The National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy (naha.org)
Essential oils are derived from plants and used not only in aromatherapy practices, but also in perfumes and flavorings. The essential oils are what give the plants their characteristic scents, and attract bees and other insects to aid in pollination.
The National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA) lists the following among the most commonly used essential oils:
- Roman chamomile
- Tea tree
- Ylang Ylang.
Essential oils are used in application during massage, can be dispersed into the air using a diffuser, can be added to your bath water for a scent-infused soak, or added to perfumes, lotions and creams. These oils are beneficial in helping to boost your mood and general well-being.
