Knock back GI Inflammation with a Turmeric Inspired Drink

We find our NutraBullet™  gets a lot of use in our kitchen. Smoothies are amazingly easy, but there are so many other things to try. Moringa Source sells Turmeric Powder which has become a powerhouse in our test kitchen. For those who don't know the power of the orange powder let us share some facts.

Turmeric is part of the ginger family, and it's native to southern Asia. When not used fresh the rhizomes are dried and ground into a powder. Often used in curries and as a spice many dishes in Indian, Bangladeshi, Pakistani and Iranian cooking. Turmeric is an Anti-Inflammatory superstar spice used in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years.

What is amazing is that 2 teaspoon of turmeric has 16 calories, 17% of daily manganese and 10% daily Iron.

Curcumin is the main ingredient in turmeric fights low-level, chronic inflammation. Curcumin is also an antioxidant, fighting free-radicals in the body. Another benefit of Curcumin is the brain hormone BDNF increases with use. BDNF helps increase growth of new neurons, and help fight various degenerative processes in the brain.

Here's an eye opening recipe to get started using Turmeric Powder in a drink and increase your Vitamin C at the same time.

Golden Tummy Sunrise Smoothie

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 cup frozen mango
  • Juice of 1 orange (fresh squeezed is preferred)
  • ¾ cup plain kefir (plain Greek yogurt is a substitute)
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric (you can increase to 1 teaspoon for stronger flavor)
  • ½ cup ice

Blend until all ingredients are smooth
